Since the early years of backyard swimming pools, pool covers were little more than large, heavy pieces of canvas that had to be held down with heavy sandbags. They were such a nuisance to maneuver, most pool owners simply didn't bother. In 1959, Joe Lamb, the founder of Cover-Pools, invented the automatic pool cover—a cover that could be used on a daily basis and offer safety, maintenance, and heat-saving benefits to the swimming pool owner.

In October 1962, Cover-Pools was established and the Save-T pool cover was introduced as the world's first automatic pool cover inspiring a revolutionary new industry. Over the years, the original Save-T pool cover design has been continually improved and refined.
